THE HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY COLLECTION

This Collection of paintings is taken from photographs and sketches I have made when The Household Cavalry are on ceremonial duties in London and when it comes up to Norfolk for their summer holiday break.  There are two regiments within the Household Cavalry – The Lifeguards who wear red jackets for ceremonial and The Blues and Royals who wear dark blue.  Naturally there is a lot of friendly rivalry between the regiments and it is a fine sight to see them at full gallop on Holkham Beach, laughing and joking with each other then riding these splendid horses into the sea for more fun and excitement away from their duties in London.

The Regiment is unique in that they are also operational soldiers and deployed all over the world in the many conflicts that trouble our world, so their dual role covers a wide range of duties as a soldier.  For further information go to: http://householdcavalry.info/

Head Study of the Legendary Spartacus

Drum Horse of the Cavalry (retired)

Oil on linen – 30″ x 20″ Sorry, not for sale as I can’t bear to part with him! (Framed canvas prints available)

This lovely horse  has now retired from duties  – he is now about 23 years old.  He was aged about 18 years old when I did this painting of him.  When his retirement ceremony was held at The Horse of the Year Show, there was not a dry eye in the house as he was led from the arena.

Rule Britannia!

This splendid young trooper is the ultimate in patriotic sights when the Cavalry ends their Musical Ride – stirring music is played at the troopers gallop into the arena at full tilt proudly holding their flags in one hand and controlling the excited horses with the other.  A fine sight and makes me very proud of this particular mounted regiment.

The Cavalry Charge

This splendid sight is always the climax of watching these troopers have fun on the beach.  They ride the horses into the sea and generally have a great time relaxing from the rigours of Army life.  The two regiments take it in turns to come up to the beach and it is obvious from the excitement that everyone looks forward to this part of their holiday away from the capital.

Hastings

This painting of Hastings, one of the Cavalry horses was taken from a sketch and photo I took when he was ready to leave the beach after a couple of hours in and out of the water.  He looked so wistful at leaving that I just had to paint him!

The Farrier

These Farriers work very hard to keep the horses in shoes and their hooves in good order.
