This is my new baby foster 'daughter' who I adopted in February 2003 when she was 2 weeks old She is an orphan and is being cared for at the Born Free supported Elephant Transit Camp, Uda Walawe in Sri Lanka. When I adopted her she was very frail and crying for her lost mother, but a year on the staff at the Transit Home have done a wonderful job in raising her and other baby orphans into healthy young animals in their natural surroundings. As her sole adopter, I am allowed to name her, so what else could I call her but Florence after an illustrious ancestor! Sales of my artwork will keep her in elephant formula milk until she is released back to the wild at around 4 years of age,so buy generously ! All our family will return to Sri Lanka for Florence's Coming Out Party - wild she was born and wild she must return. |
